A bit of History: the origin
From the diminutive Luculus used by Horace and Svetonius to signify the end grove. Comes the name Lucoli. So it is the peculiarity of the forested land that inspired the name. The foundation of the monastery of St. John the Baptist, certainly the most significant cultural heritage of the area goes back to 1077. Among the properties of St. John are mentioned the various churches in the district, many of which still exist
Lucoli was one of the villages who participated to the founding of L’Aquila city. Lucoli belonged to the quarter called S.Giovanni that now is known as S.Marciano.
